Anti-wrinkle injections contain Botulinum toxin, which is a purified substance, derived from a protein produced by the microorganism Clostridium botulinum.

This purified substance can freeze the muscle that is targeted, by preventing nerve transmissions to that muscle; this freezing stops overactive muscles moving so much, therefore smoothing wrinkles.

Treatment can take between 2-10 days to start working, then can generally last around 2-6 months before the muscles regain their normal function again.
